Interaction Skills® Program
Our Social Skills Program Groups are run each term at Melvin Speech Pathology. Our Interaction Skills® program caters for school aged children. The program offers specialised assessment and intervention for children experiencing social communication difficulties.
The program was created to help children develop and improve their social skills. It provides participants with practical skills in a relaxed social environment.
Programs are available for pre-school and school aged children. Fully qualified speech pathologists run all programs in our new group training room.
Places are limited to 6 children per group.
Following an initial assessment, children are placed in a group that will best meet their development needs.
We run our social skills programs each term during the school year. To cater for children of different ages, we offer a number of programs each term. This program starts at 4.00pm and ends at 5.15pm.
For families attending the program for the first time, we offer a Parent Information Session. This provides the opportunity for parents to meet the clinicians, discuss course content and review homework expectations. The parent session takes one hour and is run at the clinic.
The program runs for 8 weeks. Each session runs for an hour for the children, with an additional 10 – 15 minute feedback session included for parents at the end of each session. At the end of the program, an individual feedback session is provided for each family along with a report. The last session includes a party for the children, to celebrate their achievements in a social setting.
